Yamikani Mshinga

Yaminkani is 25 years old and lives in Kudaiza village, Salima District with his parents. Yamikani is deaf. He didn’t used to have an income and was dependent upon his parents. Yamikani took part in the cane furniture training at KODO, graduating in September 2019. As well as the cane furniture training, Yamikani took part in business training, reproductive health, gender awareness and organic manure training. When he finished his training he was provided with start up tools, materials and a solar powered home energy system. Yamikani now runs a cane furniture business at his home selling stools, tables and chairs. He has an income of 65,000mk a month from selling his furniture and 10,000mk per month using his solar panel to charge mobile phones. Yamikani has an increased income of 100% and his family have an increased income of 125%. Yamikani feels he is now financially independent. He is teaching his brother to make cane furniture and is able to save money. Yamikani has also been able to produce organic manure, increasing his families’ yield and he has passed on this skill to another 8 households in his community.
