Trifonia William is 21 years old and lives with her husband and child in rural Salima, Malawi. Trifonia is an amputee. Her family used to make a small amount of money (25000mk per month) from small scale farming. Trifonia took part in the cane furniture training at KODO in Salima, graduating in September 2019. As well as cane furniture training, she received training in business skills, reproductive health, gender awareness, HIV/AIDS prevention and organic manure production. When Trifonia graduated she was provided with cane furniture tools, some materials, a solar panel and support to help her start a business. She now runs a cane furniture business from home and makes 60000mk from her new business and 40000mk from farming and charging phones, using her solar panel. She has an increased income of 100% and her family have an increased income of 520%. Theresa has been able to goats, farm inputs and pay for repairs to their house. She is expanding her business, is saving money and says she is now financially independent.
