Rhoda Zingalime is 49 years old, has 5 children and lives in rural Salima. She is deaf. Rhoda used to do subsistence farming, making around 4,000mk (or £4) per month. She took part in the cane furniture training at KODO, graduating in September 2019. As well as learning to make good quality cane furniture, Rhonda took part in business, gender awareness, reproductive health, HIV and AIDS prevention and organic manure production training. When she finished training, Rhonda was given some cane furniture tools, some materials and a solar panel. She started her cane furniture business outside her home and is selling on average 2 sets per week. She is making on average 100,000mk per month from her business. With her increased income Rhonda is able to support her children, pay for labour to farm her land and is saving money. She has also bought a phone, chickens, rabbits and some clothes and is now independent.
