Mathews Michowa is 22 years old and lives in rural Ntcheu with his parents. Mathews has Hemiplegia. Mathews used to be dependent on his parents and would only make a very small amount of money doing piece work. He took part in MACOHA’s carpentry training in Ntcheu, graduating in September 2022. As well as carpentry, Mathews took part in business, gender awareness, reproductive health, HIV and AIDS prevention and organic manure production training. When he finished training, he was given carpentry tools, some materials and a solar panel. Mathews now runs his carpentry business outside his house and is making and selling doors, chairs, tables and windows frames and is now able to make 50,000mk per month. Mathews is now able to help support his parents and is financially independent. He has been able to buy a radio, a goat, chickens and kitchen utensils. Mathews also invested in some hair clippers and is renting them out with his solar panel, making an additional 20,000mk per month. bringing in additional income. Mathews has plans to try and grow his carpentry business.
