Joseph Kamanga lives in Mponda village, Dowa District. He has 4 children. Joseph has a leg disability caused by polio. He used to try to make a living repairing bicycles, but only earnt about 3000mk (or £3) per month. He used to beg. Joseph took part in the tailoring training at KODO in 2021, and was taught how to make and sell clothes. When he finished his training, Joseph was provided with a sewing machine, some materials and a solar panel. His business is going well – Joseph is selling and repairing clothes outside his home. He now makes 50,000mk per month from selling clothes and from charging mobile phones. Joseph has been able to rent a maize field and hire labour to farm it. He has also been able to buy new roofing for his house, chickens and bought an inverter for his son’s hair dressing business. Joseph is saving money for iron sheeting for his roof.
