Alinet Nkhoma

Alinet Nkhoma is 25 years old and she lives in rural Nkhotakota. She is paraplegic. Alinet used to be completely dependent upon her parents.

She took part in the tailoring training run by MACOHA in Nkhotakota, graduating in March 2022. She did 6 months training in tailoring, business management, gender awareness, reproductive health and HIV+AIDS prevention. She was also taught how to produce organic manure. When Alinet finished her training, she was provided with a sewing machine, some materials and a solar panel.

Alinet runs her new tailoring business outside her parent’s house. She competes with the other tailors in her area by producing good quality products. She is also able to design dresses and has been making and selling handbags. Business is going well and Alinet is able to make at least 50,000mk per month. She has been able to build her own house, which will be completed this year. She is financially independent and is now able to support her parents. Alinet has also been able to buy pigs, and maize and rice to sell. She is training her cousin in tailoring and has plans to build a tailoring shop behind her new house.
