Katherine Chunga is 33 years old, married and has 2 children. She has leg length discrepancy and used to make only 5000mk (or £5) from subsistence farming. She took part in MACOHA’s tailoring training in Nkhotakota, graduating in September 2019. As well as tailoring, Katherine took part in business, gender awareness, reproductive health, HIV and AIDS prevention and organic manure production training. When she finished training, she was given a sewing machine, some materials and a solar panel. She now runs her tailoring business in a shop she rents in the trading centre and is selling skirts, dresses and school uniforms. She is now making 30,000mk per month and has a steady income. She has been able to build a new house and the family have enough to pay for the school funds and food. She is teaching tailoring to her brother and one other student and is saving money to buy another sewing machine.
