Alick Chirwa is 28 years old and lives in Chimululu village, Nkhotakota. He is married with 2 children and has epilepsy. Alick took part in the cane furniture training in Nkhotakota, graduating in April 2019. Before the training Alick earned 5000 malawi kwacha per month from doing piece work. He could not afford decent food, school fees and the families’ house was in poor condition. Alick now runs a cane furniture business on a plot of land that he rents. He is making 30,000mk from his business and a further 12,000mk from farming, an increase in income of 640%. His family have an increased income of 1440%. With his increased income he is able to support his families’ day to day needs, paid for school fees for his brother, bought more tools and a plot of land. Alick has plans to increase his workshop and employ others in his business.
